Puulken

The pulk is made of glass fiber and has a trimaran design. The main dimension are:

  • Length: 140
  • Breadth: 70 cm
  • Height: 10 -14 cm (rear – front)

The pulk will accommodate three types of hauling: 1. Classic hauling rope; 2. Norpulkens classic hauling shaft; 3. Mono hauling shaft under development. The systems will have ta ability to vary the distance to the sled.

The mono hauling shaft will be the main system for kiting. The shaft will be elevated in resting position so that it can be easily clicked in to the harness attachment plate, which is part of the delivered system.

Key qualities we are aiming for are:

  • Low centre of gravity
  • Low risk of flipping
  • Will lift onto glide zones during high speed
  • Minimized wobbling in high speed
  • Inherent flex in material will absorb energy and reduce critical eigen frequency roll overs
  • Wide front
  • Rocker starting early at 90 cm (measured from the back)
  • Low connection point for hauling rig
  • Sliding surfaces can be prepped with structure

 

About the project

Longdistancekiting.com aims at facilitating new gear development so that you can have the best possible experience on your endless kiting trips. We are therefore proud to present  the co development project with Norpulken, a Norwegian manufacturer of pulks located at Torpomoen in Gudbrandsdalen.

Our joint, an humble goal is to develop the best kite pulk, shaft and harness ever made. 

Norpulken consist of higly dedicated pulk gurus with a lot of knowledge within their profession, focusing on development of sleds for children and freight, until now that is. The development team from longdistancekiting.com will be lead by the savvy kiters  Nils Arne Ro and Stein Haakanes, who will gather ideas from all the dedicated snow kiters out there. That means you, so please join us on the FORUM and share you ideas on what the pulk, shaft and harness should look like. Please share any thoughts whether is related to glide dynamics or cool colors.

The goal is to have kite pulk ready for serial production well ahead in time for VAKE 2015 – World Championships in long distance snowkiting. The pulk will be optimised for VAKE like conditions regarding amount of gear needed to hauled and amount of food needed on the trip.

Stein Haakanes found his AutoCad program and made a new suggestion to the design. Will the bottom be strong enough to handle only two glide surfaces? (Sorry Stein, this design was not first out for actual testing)

————- Status Update 20th Dec ————

The second iterations of drawings have emerged. The Pulk has increased its with from 64 to 70 cm, length remains at 140 cm and the height will vary from 14 cm (front) to 10 cm (rear). The maximum pack height is set to 50 cm.

The surface grip from the sliding structures and from the pulk geometry will be less in the front than in the back to facilitate easier turns and to decrease wobbling.

The second version has a trimaran like structure rather than the previous catamaran.

The first drawings have emerged and we are glad to see that mm paper never goes of fashion! The Pulk is curently sized to a width of 64 cm, length 140 cm and height varying from 14 cm (front) to 11 cm (rear).

The pulk will accommodate three types of hauling: 1. Classic hauling rope; 2. Norpulkens classic hauling shaft; 3. Mono hauling shaft under development.

Other: The pulk material will be glass fiber with possibilities of more exotic fibers if you wanna lay down the cash.
